Just 90 days after making the decision to electrify its fleet, Meridian had EVs on the ground, installed charging infrastructure, and was a foundation partner of Yoogo Share (an electric car sharing service).
By using GPS technology, it gathered data that showed it could actually reduce fleet numbers without compromising the needs of staff. This reduction in fleet helped fund the plug-in EV fleet conversion.
Within 6 months of the fleet launch, Meridian Energy embarked on an initiative to support other businesses to take on the challenge of electrifying transport. Through a webinar, online case study, training and communication, it has shared its journey with 50 other businesses.
By August 2019, 80% of Meridian’s light vehicle fleet was electric. It is committed to a 100% electric fleet by 2030, but is on target to reach this by 2024. By the end of 2019, 69 electric charging stations will have been installed across New Zealand.
