My Cup is a social enterprise with a goal to tackle both period waste and period poverty. The company provides a long term, sustainable, body positive, cost-effective menstrual product alternative to all women in New Zealand. My Cup operates with a buy-one-give-one model, whereby every cup sold includes a donated cup to women in the community. The cups are distributed via community partners and by people passionate about improving people’s lives.
My Cup NZ launched in April 2016 and then spent over 12 months researching menstrual cups, running trials, product testing and testing the market with overseas branded cups. Until the release of their initial product in 2017, there had not been a menstrual cup produced in New Zealand.
One menstrual cup can last for up to 10 years. This equates to a saving per woman of $2,400 over 10 years and a reduction in waste menstrual products to landfill of at least 777 tonnes. To date My Cup has sold and gifted almost 20,000 menstrual cups.
