Soar Printing is a printing company with a difference. In an industry where print volumes are dropping, it has chosen to operate in a sustainable way through optimisation of resources and designing out waste through products, services and systems.
The company has taken it upon itself to operate in a sustainable way through optimisation of resources and designing out waste through products, services and systems.
Soar Printing’s “Lean Manufacturing” programme has seen a number of initiatives to design out waste. Examples include workplace management throughout the company, with weekly audits; the use of Promapp, a web-based programme to document and drive process improvements; and staff reviews based on “Lean KPIs”. The company has also instigated a number initiatives aimed at re-using and recycling waste. It managed to reduce waste to landfill by 33% in 2012, exceeding its target of 25%, and reduced its fuel consumption by 13.7% in the same period.
Its efforts have been rewarded, too. Client satisfaction is high, gross profit has held steady and its market share has increased, and it recently secured significant new business in a contract with Auckland Council, making the company poised for between 14 and 19% growth in 2014.
Soar Printing received a Judges’ Commendation for the Mega efficiency Impact Award at the 2013 NZI National Sustainable Business Network Awards.
