The Mount Beachside Holiday Park was selected by Tauranga City Council as its sustainability flagship organisation.
The Park participates in and aims to achieve the highest possible certification across a range of industry awarding bodies, including Qualmark, the TripAdvisor Green Leaders Programme and the Instep Carbon and Sustainability Reporting Programme.
Since 2011 the Park has introduced a number of initiatives aimed at reducing its carbon emissions and environmental impact. Recycling has increased by 98 per cent and landfill waste reduced by 37 per cent. Over the same time period, occupancy has increased by 20 per cent while operation costs have come down. As well as making internal improvements towards sustainability, the Park actively reaches out to surrounding business to share and encourage greater community commitment.
Tauranga City Council plans to take the experiences it has learnt from the Holiday Park and apply them to other industries.
