T&G, New Zealand’s largest fruit and vegetable grower, has put sustainability at the centre of the company strategy. It has targeted efficiency in energy, waste and materials.
The company has partnered with EECA, targeting a 2 million kWh reduction by 2018. It has initiatives at 16 different sites around New Zealand improving lighting, fans, refrigeration and introducing heat recovery technology. The target was achieved a year early.
T&G views waste as a resource and has focused on eliminating waste to landfill. The company achieved a 20% waste reduction at its main Auckland site in the first 12 months of the efficiency programme.
By setting measurable sustainability targets and exceeding them, T&G is providing leadership in the horticultural industry. To help achieve the sustainability goals, the company is involving staff in many engagement activities.
T&G Global is a finalist in the Efficiency Champion category of the 2017 NZI Sustainable Business Network Awards.
