These organisations have collaborated with the Paul Scherrer Institut in Switzerland. Together they’ve created robust energy modelling for New Zealand, to help organisations plan well for the future.
Called TIMES-NZ 2.0, the modelling tool is available for free on the EECA website. It represents the entire New Zealand energy system, from primary resources to final energy consumption. It allow users to consider and explore two scenarios – Kea and Tūī – in detail over five year periods.
In Scenario Kea, climate change is the most pressing issue. New Zealand is pursuing cohesive ways to achieve a low-emissions economy.
In Scenario Tūī, climate change is an important issue to be addressed as one of many priorities. Most decisions are left to individuals and market mechanisms.
Using the tool helps organisations understand how their business decisions may impact energy and associated emissions between now and 2050.
