Sponsored by Auckland Council.
The Milk Refill from Glass Bottle Milk aims to decrease plastic and packaging use. Consumers buy a glass bottle that can be filled repeatedly at its Milk Refill machines in participating food stores.
Earlier this year there were 12 Milk Refill machines across Auckland and one in Mount Maunganui. Another 10 machines were added in July. The initiative has saved more than 12,000 plastic bottles from being purchased so far. The aim is for each Milk Refill to supply 120 litres of milk per week. The goal is to prevent the production of at least three million virgin plastic bottles over the next five years.
The Milk Refill initiative was launched in March 2020 in partnership with Lewis Road Creamery.
