Charmaine Bailie (Ngati Whatua Kaipara) is a force of nature. Currently Chair of the Kaipātiki Project, she has been involved with the organisation since 1998. A Director of Uru Whakaaro for eight years, she leads the development of traditional and experimental ecological restoration. She is a founding member of Waitōtara Sustainable and Resilient Living, working to restore the Waiwera catchment. She is a facilitator of the Iwi-Hapu and Community Native Plant Nursery Network, evolving a space for community to grow local biodiversity. She is a founder of the Para Kore ki Tāmaki (Zero Waste Tāmaki), fostered by Ngāti Whātua Ōrakei. She is supporting a process to evaluate how the organisation can respond to the huge demand across Māori, Marae and the wider public for support on their Para kore (zero waste) journey.
Charmaine is also a Technical Advisor with EcoNet, an organisation which aims to accelerate conservation outcomes by collaborating on information systems and data exchange to support and engage communities. She works at local, regional and national levels.
