Restoring Nature
2021 AWARD FINALIST
Sponsored by Department of Conservation
HealthPost is Aotearoa New Zealand’s largest natural health and wellness online retailer, based in Golden Bay. It sells more than 5,000 wellbeing products, carefully chosen for their ethical values and processes.
HealthPost partners with the Department of Conservation, Manawhenua ki Mohua and others. It initiated Onetahua Restoration, which is restoring thriving biodiversity at the tip of the South Island. It’s creating a rich and protected ecosystem for the benefit of threatened species.
Since 2018 HealthPost has been restoring habitats for seabirds and other species. It does this through regular plantings of native trees and extensive predator control.
In early 2020 it opened its Wharariki Ecosanctuary at Cape Farewell. This three-hectare predator-proof enclosure scales up the company’s conservation aims enormously. The firm is currently preparing for the translocation of three threatened seabird species – Diving petrel, Westland black petrel and Flesh-footed Shearwater. It is helping protect and encourage remnant populations of Sooty Shearwater, Korora, and Nelson Green Gecko. Bringing seabirds back to the mainland helps restore an entire ecosystem. It also creates habitat for invertebrates and other species.
In three years, HealthPost has created a significant nature restoration project. It is encouraging indigenous flora and fauna to flourish.
HealthPost’s brand of supplements, BioBalance, was the first in Australasia to become B Corp certified. It has recently commenced the B Corp certification process for the whole business, and is Living Wage and Zero Carbon certified.
