Outstanding Collaboration
2021 AWARD FINALIST
Sponsored by Toitū Envirocare
The Social Supermarket collaboration lets people in need choose food and essential items in a normal supermarket environment. This avoids pre-selected food parcels that may not meet family or cultural needs. Wellington City Mission also connects shoppers to social workers and additional services within the community.
Beginning in March 2021, New World re-designed the City Mission’s existing food bank space. It donated product and trained 12 volunteers. The New World owner-operator network donated a range of products and interiors. This included trollies, shelving, and chiller units. They provide ongoing support and funding, and ran an instore donation promotion in June.
The Social Supermarket’s maximum capacity is currently 120 customer appointments per week. It’s booked out every day.
