Tāne’s Tree Trust is a non-profit charitable trust. It promotes the benefits of native trees for biodiversity, landscape enhancement and culture. It shares resources on how high-quality timber and other resources can be produced sustainably.
The Trust was established in 2002. Its trustees represent a wide range of sectors, interests and expertise. The Trust has a broad membership base. It works with interest groups from managing agencies and environmental trusts, to iwi and landowners. All are keen to see the planting and management of indigenous trees nationwide. They share knowledge about the successful establishment of indigenous forests for multiple purposes.
In 2020/21 the Trust created O Tātou Ngāhere – Our Forest in partnership with Pure Advantage. This research programme details how native forests can be integrated into the landscape for everyone’s benefit. It includes more than 35 articles from foresters and scientists, seven webisodes and a short documentary. They all highlight the valuable role native species can play in the future of forestry.
