Millie is a key member of Countdown's sustainability team and leads all workstreams relating to waste and resource recovery. In her role, Millie delivers critical operational support to more than 190 stores across the country and is responsible for helping Countdown achieve its ambitious resource recovery commitments. This includes sending zero food waste to landfill by 2025.
Millie's role requires her to manage internal stakeholders from every corner of Countdown, as well as external stakeholders from industry working groups to external service providers. Her operational oversight sees her manage Countdown’s waste and recycling contracts which makes her responsible for some of the company’s most business-critical services and relationships.
Millie also sits or represents Countdown in many industry working groups. These include WasteMinz Organics Materials steering committee; Packaging Forum - Soft Plastics Recycling Scheme; Packaging Forum - PFAS Technical Advisory Group; and Love Food Hate Waste Working Group.
Millie's true passion lies in food waste. She is a project owner of Countdown’s Food for Good programme, which takes a design-led approach to accelerate progress towards zero food waste.
She always conducts herself as a leader of positive change. She creates impactful outcomes that help reimagine and regenerate the food system in Aotearoa New Zealand.
