Sustainability Superstar
2022 AWARD FINALIST
Sponsored by NZI
Sustainability is part of Dawn’s DNA and is reflected in all aspects of her work and personal life.
Dawn’s mission in sustainability began early in her life, as she negotiated the UK social services system to deal with her mother’s severe mental health condition. This experience embedded her innate sense of social equity, fairness and inclusion. These values inspired Dawn to focus her career on ensuring organisations have a sustainable ethos.
Professionally this is evident from her resume. Her first job involved working in social housing in the UK for 10 years. This was followed by eight years as Head of Procurement at Westpac Bank. She then contracted briefly at NZ Post on the Corporate Responsibility Index, before moving to Denmark to work in KPMG’s sustainability practice. She then returned to NZ and has been leading NZ Post’s sustainability journey since 2012.
In addition to her day job, Dawn is an alumni of the Cambridge Institute of Sustainable Leadership Executive programme; a Board Member with the Sustainable Business Network; and an Independent Technical Advisor with Toitū.
Outside of 9-5, you’re most likely to find Dawn working in her veggie patch, tending her bees, charging her EV, sewing a new outfit or fundraising for the community.
