Malcolm Johns is Chief Executive of Christchurch International Airport. He is a founding signatory and member of the Climate Leaders Coalition Steering Group, and Chair of the APEC Business Advisory Council Climate Leadership for Businesses Task Force.
Malcolm is committed to action on climate change and to embedding climate action principles into businesses so they can play their part in decarbonisation. He recognises that the scale of our climate challenge requires all areas of society to get onboard – government, business and society as a whole. He has shown considerable leadership and climate ambition in the business world.
Malcolm works closely with Government on our national pathway. He was an advocate for the Zero Carbon Act and the establishment of an Independent Climate Commission. Under Malcolm’s leadership, Christchurch International Airport has become the first airport in the world to be awarded Level 4 ‘Transformation’, the Airports Council International’s highest standard of airport carbon reduction. He has led the Airport in a 90% reduction in Scope 1 emissions (direct emissions from sources controlled by the company).
